Our road trip has come to an end and we are home. The van is unpacked, the washing has been started!
We arrived home to a little heat wave, and after the cold we experienced while away it was a shock to the system. 35c today and 36c forecast for tomorrow with the afternoon bringing a cooler change.
While in Moss Vale we rode our bikes a few times. This day our destination was for coffee. Very civilized exercise!
After leaving Moss Vale we returned to Bathurst and had a walk around the city.
These houses in Bathurst were very well maintained, and I just love the interesting architecture of this era.
A short drive from Bathurst was Sofala, and Hill End, both towns a part of the gold rush in the area.
The little township had some interesting buildings.
Some in great condition, others showing the ravages of time.
On our drive to Hill End we stopped at this creek crossing, it was quiet and peaceful.
The one lane bridge had an interesting construction.
On to Hill End…
The town was once a thriving gold town, it is now managed by The National Parks and thanks to the uncovering of photographs from the 1850’s they have recreated the street scape by placing photographs and information where the original building once stood.
It gave an interesting peek into the difficulties faced by inhabitants of a gold mining town during the 1800’s. While it was a prosperous time, it wasn’t without it’s hazards. Children especially, struggled for survival in the harsh conditions.
The original hospital building has been painstakingly restored and now houses a small museum.
The wattle trees bloomed prolifically and looked spectacular.

It sure looks like you had a marvelous trip. The photos are really nice with beautiful scenery. I enjoyed seeing the architecture, especially those gorgeous little houses in Bathurst with the decorative wrought iron - just love that! Thanks for sharing your travels.
