A quiet week on the stitching front for me, I have a head cold that has migrated to my chest and I’ve been feeling very ordinary. Lots of sleeping has helped, and now I think I am over the hump!
So today I remembered that I hadn’t posted about my inclusion in the June/July issue of Quilters Newsletter. The article written by my friend Linda Hungerford, appeared in this American publication, showcasing 8 Aussie stitchers and I was one of them.
I felt extremely honoured to be asked for my thoughts and to have my quilt photographed for the article.
My quilt used a pattern by Veronica Johnson published in an Australian Patchwork and Stitching Magazine in 2006. Veronica used machine embroidery, I chose to do hand embroidery, and I used my extensive collection of Bronwyn Hayes - Red Brolly designs instead. The fabrics came entirely from my stash of scraps and I finished it in 2008.
The others included in this article are Cheryl Goss, Di Jobbins, Gail Pan, Jan Quigley Jenny Reynolds, Carol Richardson and Vicki Tucek, so I felt extra honoured to be amongst such talented company.
As I said, not much stitching….but I did manage to drag myself to Card Classes this week and here’s what we made.
Stamped candle and a simple card using some of the new card and ink colours recently released by Stampin’ Up.
Last weekend, pre head cold, I managed to add to my Dear Jane block collection.
Perhaps this is the beginning of a few more to add to my very small collection? I used foundation piecing for the outer edges, stitched to a 3” inner block, and appliquéd the leaves to each corner. So a multitude of techniques went into such a small project!
I have a chocolate cake in the oven, and a load of washing doing it’s stuff. So it’s time to head for the couch and pick up a little stitching….this blogging has taken it all out of me!!!
Thanks for visiting.

What a talented (and slightly famous?) Mother I have :)
umm seems like even with a head cold you achieve a lot.
Love everything.

OMG!! I didn't know I was in such estimed company. You should have brought the mag. to show me, 'cause I don't subscribe to it any more and I would never have known.
Well done you clever ole thing!
Hope your cold is getting better, and yes I have just finished all that dreaded ironing.VBG.
Hu Julie... bring the mag to retreat so we can all have a look... congrats......

How exciting - a published author!!
Congratulations!!
What a wonderful achievement Julie!
Does the quilt appear anywhere on your blog?
I'd love to see it esp. as I'm a fan of Bronwyn Hayes designs and can imagine your quilt is just gorgeous.
