After the eventful evening with Gail taking a tumble, today she was on crutches with stitches in her lip! Like the trouper she is, she managed to join us when we hopped a plane to The Big Island of Hawaii to visit Kilauea Volcano in the Hawaii Volcanoes National Park.
We had a very early start, wake up call for 4.30am and pick up for the airport at 5.30am. The flight is about 45min to Hilo.
The flight was delightful, very smooth and very scenic.
The beach sand is black and there are lava flow rock formations on the beach.
Rainbow Falls are very close to the centre of the town of Hilo.
I stumbled upon this little patchwork shop on the way to see the volcano.
I managed to find a few little things to bring home with me.
The Lava Plains
Then we visited The Lava Tubes
Last stop was an Orchid Farm
The end of the day came so very quickly, a flight back to Honolulu, dinner at the California Pizza Place and then home to bed.
Thanks for visiting,
Julie xxx
