I think my needle turn is getting better, and I have discovered that I can keep the silk thread in my needle if I do a slip knot thingy through the eye of the needle. The tiny knot slips easily though the fabric and I am not forever re threading my needle, and having that section of thread frayed and raggy

Makes for a much more pleasant applique experience!
